In the spring of 2000, a young couple from Wyoming—Steve, a construction engineer, and Kara, an early childhood educator—made the bold decision to move east and start a new life in Southern New Hampshire. They settled in Merrimack, far from family and friends, but full of hope and optimism for the future.

In 2007, Steve and Kara began exploring the idea of owning a business of their own. The following year, in June 2008, they purchased Laconia Refrigeration, a well-established commercial refrigeration and HVAC company with more than 35 years of service in central and southern New Hampshire.

At the time of the purchase, the company had four service vans, six employees, and operated out of a modest 1,800-square-foot leased space in Laconia. But with a strong work ethic and a shared vision for growth, Steve and Kara were determined to expand the business and create new opportunities.

By 2011, they had outgrown the original shop and office. They purchased a 4,500-square-foot building, giving the company room to grow. In 2014, they added a 2,000-square-foot storage warehouse to further support their growing team and service capabilities.

As their operations continued to expand, it soon became clear they needed even more space. In response, in 2024, they built a brand-new office and warehouse at 277 Hounsell Ave in Gilford, NH—a modern facility designed with both current needs and future growth in mind. This move marks another exciting chapter in the company’s journey and reflects their long-term commitment to serving the region.

In the fall of 2011, they also launched a second division, New England Mechanical, based in Waterville, Maine. With that expansion, their service area grew to include all of New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, and parts of Massachusetts.

Today, Laconia Refrigeration and New England Mechanical serve a diverse customer base that includes well-known restaurants, convenience stores, markets, and residential heating and air conditioning clients.

From humble beginnings, the company now employs 28 team members, operates 20 fully stocked service vans, and has become a trusted regional leader in HVAC and commercial refrigeration.
